Connectivity, infrastructures and devices
Ultra-broadband fixed and advanced mobile networks (5G, toward 6G), semiconductors, cloud data storage, advanced connectivity devices and edge computing are the key pillars of the digital infrastructure.
Under this research project, the CDS team aims to analyse the costs and benefits of the ongoing implementation of 5G technology in different countries and the benefits of the future 6G standard.
Secondly, the research team investigates whether and to what extent the current geopolitical tensions between the USA, China and the EU, and the increasing debate over digital sovereignty, may affect the development of key technologies, such as semiconductors, 5G and cloud data storage.
Finally, the research project includes the analysis of the forthcoming Digital Network Act (DNA) proposal on the development of digital infrastructures in Europe.
This project receives funding from the Market Donors of the Centre for a Digital Society.
